Yet again a video that is as beautiful as the song. Big fan of the cinematography in this. Plus, smoke machines! Can’t go wrong with those 🙂

This video has been circulating around the ‘freelance artists network’ for some time now, so I thought I would share it on my blog.

Should creative professionals continue to work for free, in a world where ‘nothing comes without a price’?

Would you work fulltime (and longterm) in an office or a shop, for free or very little pay, just for ‘experience’ or because it’ll be good for your resume?

I’ve been fortunate to get a couple of small jobs this year in photography, but am still constantly sent messages asking me to do impossibly large shoots for free. I think because I am part of a ‘creative’ industry, people still assume this is a hobby for me. And I hear the same thing from designers, makeup artists, hair stylists etc. All of this is apparently just ‘fun’ for us and doesn’t cost us anything.

I’m thinking of adopting the ‘barter’ system. ‘Sure, I’ll shoot your portfolio, as long as next time I need a lift to another state, you drive me!’

Water, light, reflection, movement. But above all, I think there is a certain sensuality that is captured underwater that you can’t get ‘on land’.

I admire underwater photographers a great deal.

All I can say right now is WOW WOW WOW! Is it normal to want to live inside a video? Cause I’m having strange, new feelings right now. I want to live in this Noir masterpiece!

At first I thought, ‘mmm, pretty Noir film, should be a nice watch’, but then the slow motion and special effects kick in…and the music! I’m in love with the whole thing.

You should also watch the Making Of because if you are anything like me, you’ll be dying to know how they did it. And let’s just say, it looks like it was a lot of work.

Genius. Absolute genius.

I dare anyone to challenge the awesomeness of this video. IT’S A TOUGH DANCE TO DO!

Love how everyone instantly gets out their cameras/phones and starts recording. ‘DANCING WOMEN! OMG! Sooo going on youtube!’ Even though it’s already being obviously filmed and photographed from a million angles already.

Cool stuff like this never happens in my city. Maybe I should organise something myself, film it, put it on youtube, then blog it. Great plan, Rose. Great plan.

On a photography related note: New work coming to the blog after easter, PLUS I am shooting next week. Very excited. It’s hard to believe I have only done 3 shoots this year. But I can’t say I haven’t enjoyed a bit of a break to clear my head.

Smoke machines/natural fog are the best things in the world. Period.

I also think more designers should do video look books. And I would like to help them 🙂
